Letitia James, New York’s attorney general, has a big problem on her hands with a scandal involving a state prosecutor, Sandra Doorley. Doorley was caught on bodycam video getting out of a speeding ticket by using her position as a prosecutor in Monroe County. She called a policeman names and did not initially stop when he tried to pull her over for speeding.

It’s concerning when public officials like Doorley abuse their power to avoid facing consequences for breaking the law. This behavior undermines the public’s trust in the justice system. Officials should be held to a higher standard and should face the same consequences as any other citizen when they break the law.
Doorley’s actions after being caught, including trying to involve the chief of police to get out of trouble, show a sense of entitlement that is unacceptable. Public officials should be humble and respectful, not demanding special treatment simply because of their position.
It is good to see that Doorley eventually apologized for her behavior, but her attempt to justify it by citing personal issues is not an excuse for her actions. Everyone faces challenges and stress in their lives, but that doesn’t give anyone the right to mistreat others or break the law.
It is important for Attorney General James to investigate this incident thoroughly to uphold the integrity of the justice system and ensure that public officials are held accountable for their actions.
