In response to the lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General, Letitia James, Donald Trump quickly responded on his social media platform. He accused James of lying and said that she was targeting him.
In his typical Trumpian manner, he stated that he was the target of an unfair trial in the case of New York State Attorney General Letitia James. He then went on to say that the judge hated Trump and that he was frustrated by the legal process.
Trump went on to claim that his net worth was actually much more than what James had claimed. He also accused the state of interfering with the upcoming elections.
In her lawsuit, Letitia James has asked for a 5-year ban on Trump's real estate and business activities in the state. She also demanded that he and his children be barred from holding executive roles in New York-based companies.
The case is scheduled to go on trial in October. James is seeking a summary judgment in one of her seven claims against Trump, which she says has overwhelming proof of fraud.
Trump's lawyers released a transcript of his April deposition, which covered a seven-hour period. During his testimony, Trump discussed his company's operations and the value of his various real estate properties. He also claimed that he had always been able to make his payments on time and didn't receive a default notice.
Trump's lawyers are asking for the case to have been dismissed due to the statute of limitations. They also noted that his companies have paid off lenders and have never failed on their loans.
Throughout his legal battles, Trump has maintained that he is innocent. However, due to the upcoming court dates, his campaign schedule will be disrupted. In January 2024, he will face another case related to defamation.
