The former Vice President Mike Pence just doesn’t seem to understand the depth of DOJ and FBI corruption. His recent comments on Fox News are a prime example of this. Following the release of John Durham’s report exposing the gross abuses of power within the country’s top law enforcement agency, Pence stated that “we’re going to clean house across all the senior levels of the Department of Justice and the FBI.” However, the idea that only senior political appointees are responsible for the corrupt rot within the agency is a thing of the past. There are corrupt FBI agents at every level.

It is evident that Pence is stuck in the mindset that FBI agents are law-abiding citizens working diligently for justice. The former Vice President refused to see the rampant corruption exposed by the FBI. Agents have been caught red-handed, involved in various scandals, including holding a pro-life author at gunpoint in front of his children, covering up the Larry Nassar scandal, and unauthorized surveillance. In light of all the evidence, it is clear that the rot goes deeper than senior leadership. FBI Dir. Christopher Wray’s office is not the only part of the problem, but he is part of it, and he should be fired.
It is essential that 2024 Republican presidential candidates take bold steps to address the corrupt practice within the DOJ and FBI. Ron DeSantis, for example, has released a plan to completely reorganize the DOJ and FBI, including relocation. His plan is the kind of far-reaching action necessary to end corruption in the agency. In contrast, Pence seems to be hanging on to techniques and methods that lost their relevance over time.
The former Vice President’s plan to replace just a few senior-level officials is unlikely to bring about any significant change in the agency. He has even refused to pledge directly to fire Wray, which should be a prerequisite for any GOP voter when the primaries begin. It is impossible to see why Pence is running for the presidency in the first place. He seems to be bringing nothing unique to the table and offers no alternative methods to tackle the corrupt practices within the DOJ and FBI. Pence is only a clear indication of the outdated GOP practices of 2012, and there is no room for that anymore.
In conclusion, it is clear that Pence just doesn’t get it. He is out of touch with the reality of FBI corruption at all levels. Republicans should not support his candidacy and instead back 2024 hopefuls like Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy, who have directly pledged to fire Wray and reorganize the DOJ and FBI.
