Del. Stacey Plaskett, a member of the Democratic Party serving in the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, is speaking out against the committee’s promotion of conspiracy theories. Plaskett expressed concern about the damage these theories are causing to American democracy, particularly in eroding public trust in the system. She specifically criticized the committee’s chairman, Rep. Jim Jordan, for promoting baseless conspiracy theories that have no basis in fact. This undermines the credibility of the Department of Justice and the FBI.
Plaskett, who gained national attention as a House manager in the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, is committed to pushing back against the committee’s false narrative and rhetoric, especially as it pertains to the upcoming 2024 elections. Plaskett has been a member of Congress since 2015 and was recently reelected without facing any opposition.
The subcommittee, which investigates claims of weaponization within the federal government, recently held a hearing on big tech’s censorship of speech. The hearing included discussions about Hunter Biden and his abandoned laptop, which sparked theories and speculation from journalists and attorneys present, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a Democratic presidential candidate for 2024.
With Trump’s trial related to classified documents scheduled for May 2024, Plaskett’s criticisms of the committee and its handling of conspiracy theories highlight the ongoing partisan tensions surrounding the former president. It also raises questions about the committee’s ability to conduct fair and unbiased investigations.
