Pollsters Eat Crow as Trump Train Gains Steam

Republicans have been laughing at the pollsters’ wrong guesses for years. Remember how they swore Hillary Clinton had the 2016 election in the bag? Yeah, those pollsters can’t be trusted to get Trump right, or so they say. But hold on a minute, this time around the polls seem to be doing a better job — at least at the start.

Polling the opinion on Trump is like trying to catch a greased pig at a county fair. The liberal Democrats, the big-shot media, and all those celebrities made it seem like a crime to even whisper support for Trump. It could get you booted from your book club or disinvited from your neighbor’s BBQ. People felt like they were supposed to hate Trump because, well, that’s what everyone was saying. And to top it off, some polls are twisted towards Democrats, trying to mold opinions instead of reflecting them.

But now, as Trump keeps rolling like a runaway train, that toxic vibe is fading away. It’s not that crazy anymore to say you stand with Trump — even famous folks are coming out of the woodwork to show their support. From rappers to actors to athletes, more and more people are saying, “Hey, maybe Trump isn’t so bad after all.” It’s like a group mentality thing where now regular folks feel okay to stand up for what they believe in. They’ve caught on to the media’s game, realizing Biden is the real radical here, while Trump is more like a blast from the normal past.

So when the polls showed Trump slicing up the competition in Iowa, coming in just shy of the projection, the naysayers had to eat their words. Turns out Trump had the majority backing him, while Nikki Haley’s crew was more of a small blip on the radar. And when New Hampshire rolled around, the polls were almost right on the money, even if Haley got a bit more love than expected.

South Carolina was another win for Trump, with the polls only slightly off the mark. Haley, on the other hand, got a boost, probably from some Democrats trying to stick it to Trump in the primaries. But let’s be real, they wouldn’t pick her in a general election.

Michigan threw a curveball with Trump underperforming and Haley overachieving, thanks to plenty of undecided voters hopping on board. And then on Super Tuesday, things got a bit wonky with the polls overestimating Trump’s lead in some places. It goes to show that polling isn’t an exact science, especially when you throw in last-minute game-changers like Haley.

But here’s the kicker, despite the bumps along the way, Trump is still riding high in the polls. He’s got a lead over Biden that’s growing by the day. And without Haley in the mix, things might just even out again. The more folks hop on the Trump train, the safer it feels to say, “Yeah, I support him.” And as that happens, the polls should start mirroring reality more closely.

Now the ball’s in Haley’s court. Her voters are searching for that sense of normalcy and balance, and her hint at supporting Trump could sway them back into his camp. It’s all about perceptions and who can paint the rosiest picture of the future.
