Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), the new House speaker pro tempore, wasted no time in flexing his newfound power by ordering former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to vacate her Capitol hideaway office. In a not-so-subtle email sent to Pelosi’s office, a top aide on the GOP-controlled House Administration Committee requested that she leave the space by Wednesday. The email stated that the room would be re-keyed and reassigned for “speaker office use” by the acting speaker.

Pelosi, always one to make a scene, claimed that she was “unable to retrieve my belongings at this time” because she was in California paying tribute to the recently deceased Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). She accused McHenry of departing from tradition and making a big deal out of office space. But let’s be honest, Pelosi loves her fancy office suites.
https://twitter.com/AndrewSolender/status/1709375146702536985The power move by McHenry comes on the heels of Tuesday’s vote to vacate the speakership, a move led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). House Democrats joined forces to oust McCarthy, showing their true colors and their refusal to work with Republicans. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) made it clear that Democrats have no interest in helping Republicans clean up their own mess.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) released a statement following the vote, emphasizing the importance of putting “people over politics.” Yet, it’s clear that the Democrats’ real agenda is to undermine traditional Republicans and further push their liberal extremism. It remains to be seen whether traditional Republicans will stand up to this assault and join forces with Democrats, or if they will uphold conservative values and protect the interests of everyday Americans.
