Prosecutors Nearing End in Hunter Biden Gun Trial, Key Witnesses Due

The prosecutors are close to finishing their case against Hunter Biden in his gun trial, which is an ongoing legal matter. They plan to call two final witnesses, including an FBI chemist and a Drug Enforcement Administration official. The chemist is expected to discuss lab results showing cocaine on a pouch belonging to Biden, and the DEA official is expected to analyze Biden’s text messages about alleged drug transactions. The prominent white-collar attorney leading Biden’s defense, Abbe Lowell, intends to call a few witnesses for the defense before resting their case, potentially by the end of Monday.

After the defense presents its case, closing statements will be delivered, and then the case will go to the jury for deliberation. The trial has progressed over four days and has involved several witnesses, including Biden’s ex-wife, two ex-girlfriends, and the individual who sold Biden the gun in question. The most recent day of the trial included personal testimony from Hallie Biden, the widow of Hunter Biden’s late brother, Beau, who discussed her relationship with the first son and detailed his use of crack cocaine.

Special counsel David Weiss alleges that Hunter Biden lied on a federal form about his drug use in 2018 to purchase a revolver and illegally retained the firearm for several days. Hallie Biden testified that she found the gun and ammunition in his truck eleven days after he purchased it and threw it away in a grocery store trash bin. She also mentioned finding crack cocaine residue and drug paraphernalia in the truck along with the gun.
The proceedings also featured cross-examination between Abbe Lowell and Hallie Biden, focusing on the events she experienced the morning she found the gun.

Hunter Biden is required to attend court daily, and his supporters, including his wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, and Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris, have been present throughout the trial. First Lady Jill Biden was present for the first three days but was absent Thursday due to D-Day memorial events. Lowell stated that Hunter Biden has not yet made a decision on whether he will testify in his defense.
