In a not-so-shocking turn of events, Representative Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, is pushing for an investigation into Jared Kushner’s foreign business dealings. It seems like the Democrats just can’t get enough of their never-ending investigations. Mr. Raskin sent a letter to James Comer, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, requesting that he approve a subpoena to force Kushner to hand over records of his communications with members of the Saudi Arabian government. They also want records of Saudi public investment in Kushner’s business firm, A Fin Management LLC, which apparently goes by the catchier name of Affinity.

This whole ordeal started back in 2021 when Kushner formed Affinity after President Trump left office. According to Raskin, Affinity managed to raise a whopping $2 billion from the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund overseen by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It’s always fascinating how these Democrats magically become so interested in investigating people right as the Republicans gain control. But hey, better late than never, I guess.
This isn’t the first time Democrats have gone after Kushner for his ties to Saudi Arabia. Back in 2022, Carolyn Maloney, a Democrat from New York, asked Kushner for documents related to the Saudi investment in Affinity. She also wanted any records of his communications with the Saudi Crown Prince. Maloney couldn’t help but mention the close relationship between Kushner and the Saudi government during the Trump administration. She brought up the $110 billion arms deal and those pesky allegations that he wanted to share nuclear technology with Saudi Arabia.
To really drive their point home, Maloney even mentioned Kushner’s brother Joshua and his venture capital firm, Thrive Capital Management, which apparently had some business dealings with the Saudis. She seemed to imply that there may have been some conflicts of interest going on. I mean, how dare someone have family members involved in business while serving in the government? The nerve!
Of course, the Democrats are always quick to bring up some fancy presentation that supposedly shows how Affinity is leveraging Kushner’s connections from his time in the White House. They claim it references Middle East peace projects and the OPEC+ Production Cut, as if that’s some kind of smoking gun. But let’s be real, folks. Kushner is a legitimate businessman with legitimate businesses. It’s not like he’s a career politician who’s been peddling influence and making shady deals for decades. Oh wait…
Meanwhile, the Republicans are focused on investigating President Joe Biden and his family’s questionable business dealings. It’s a classic case of “he said, she said,” but with a lot more money at stake. The Democrats are trying to spin this as a distraction from their own investigations, but we all know they’re just trying to protect dear old Joe and his son Hunter. It’s like a never-ending soap opera, and we’re all stuck watching the reruns. Pass the popcorn, please.
