Raskin’s Rant on MSNBC Proves Democrats’ Thin Skin and Double Standards

Representative Jamie Raskin took to MSNBC’s “Velshi” to unleash a torrent of indignation over President Trump’s cheeky jab at Senator Elizabeth Warren by referring to her as “Pocahontas.” Based on Raskin’s take, one would think Trump just proposed a ban on apple pie and baseball. The Democratic congressman expressed that it would only be fitting for Trump to be censured for his remark, showing that the Left’s sense of humor is as thin as their understanding of satire.

In the midst of his impassioned defense of decorum and politeness, Raskin seemed to forget that his party has waded into the muck more times than a pig at a county fair. With all the theatrics over a nickname, one might assume the Democrats are desperate to distract from their own antics. Raskin lamented the lack of a “strategic plan” during Trump’s address, implying that the Democrats needed to coordinate their outrage better—perhaps a coordinated exit, like a high school drama troupe storming out after a bad audition.

He also decided to throw some shade at Trump’s ability to handle heckling, contrasting it with how President Biden responded to Marjorie Taylor Greene’s constant interruptions. The irony is palpable. Biden’s “manly” response consisted of mumbling through a speech while the world watched the White House resemble a scene from a circus. Raskin’s defense seems like a classic case of “those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones” considering how Democrats have behaved during various presidential addresses themselves.

The congressman continued to push the narrative that Trump’s reference to Warren was a grave offense against the dignity of Congress. Apparently, Raskin thinks that the decorum of the chamber is of utmost importance, conveniently ignoring the fact that Democrats have spent years tossing their own decorum out the window. The Democrats’ rejection of the idea to censure Trump might suggest they’re well aware of their own double standards. According to Raskin, if anyone should be censured, it’s Trump—a man who has long been a thorn in their side.

The ultimate irony is that in his quest to preserve the dignity of the chamber, Raskin merely highlighted the absurdity of the situation. Censuring Trump for a nickname while cloaking themselves in faux righteousness is like demanding character while throwing mud. One can’t help but think that perhaps the Democratic leadership might want to focus on issues that actually matter to everyday Americans—unless, of course, they enjoy being the butt of the joke just as much as the rest of the country does.
