This comes at a time when tensions between the United States and both countries are already high. While the U.S. is currently focused on aiding Ukraine against Russian aggression, it is clear that China is also becoming increasingly provocative. From spy balloons to secret-selling sailors, China has been making hostile moves against the U.S. Not only is China a foreign power that should be treated with caution, but it seems that the Biden administration is simultaneously trying to be tough on China while also appeasing them. This is a dangerous strategy that could undermine American security.
China’s navy, which has already surpassed the U.S. fleet in size, is expected to continue growing, while the U.S. Navy is set to shrink. This power imbalance is a cause for concern, especially considering China’s aggressive behavior. The recent joint operation between Chinese and Russian warships near Alaska is unprecedented and highlights the increasingly aggressive nature of these authoritarian regimes. Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska expressed his concern, stating that this joint task force of the two main U.S. adversaries probing closely to U.S. shores is alarming. It seems that we have entered a new era of authoritarian aggression led by Beijing and Moscow.
Fortunately, the U.S. Navy was able to guide the adversarial ships away from American waters. However, the message from China and Russia is clear. Their provocative maneuvers are a signal of their intentions and their disregard for international norms. As tensions continue to rise, it is crucial that the U.S. remains vigilant and takes a strong stance against these aggressive actions. “Hope” should not be the basis of our dealings with China. The Biden administration must recognize the seriousness of the situation and act accordingly to protect American interests and national security.
