Republican senators expressed outrage on Sunday following a drone attack on a U.S. base in Jordan that resulted in the death of three Americans and the injury of over 25 others. The attack, which targeted Tower 22 near the Syria border, was attributed by President Biden to extremists backed by Iran. In response, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina called for a strong strike against Iran, stating, “Hit Iran now. Hit them hard.” He criticized Secretary Austin’s failure to deter aggression in the region and expressed a lack of confidence in Biden’s national security team. Graham argued that only by holding Iran accountable and targeting their infrastructure can the attacks on U.S. troops be stopped.

Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas also condemned Biden’s response, accusing him of emboldening Iran through appeasement and leaving American troops vulnerable. Cotton emphasized the need for devastating military retaliation against Iran’s terrorist forces as the only appropriate response. Failure to do so, he warned, would brand Biden as a “coward” unfit to be commander-in-chief. Similarly, Senator John Cornyn of Texas advised, “Target Tehran,” asserting the necessity of a strong and decisive action against Iran.
Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, a former national security adviser in the Trump administration, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of a forceful response to deter future aggression. He argued that the Biden administration must abandon its cautious approach and make a “hard strike” against Iran. Kellogg warned that failing to do so would invite further Iranian attacks and destabilize the region.
With Republican senators urging swift and aggressive action against Iran, the Biden administration faces mounting pressure to respond effectively to these attacks on U.S. forces. The situation highlights the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran and the challenges that President Biden must navigate in his approach to the Middle East.
