During a recent session of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Rep. Hank Johnson, a Democrat from Georgia, once again showcased his knack for bizarre remarks, this time specifically targeting former President Donald Trump. While U.S. Circuit Judge Timothy Tymkovich was offering a serious discussion about the urgent need for more federal judges—something that even Democrats should be concerned about—Johnson decided to steer the conversation into absurd territory by imagining a scenario where Trump might defy a court order.
In a desperate attempt to conjure up a sense of chaos, Johnson proposed a hypothetical situation in which the U.S. Marshals, presumably following orders from the Justice Department, might refuse to enforce a court ruling if Trump were found in contempt of court. One has to wonder what Johnson was thinking—did he believe he was making a profound legal point or simply indulging his political fantasies? Fortunately, Judge Tymkovich wasn’t interested in playing along with this theatrics. He efficiently redirected the conversation back to the actual pressing issue at hand: the dire shortage of judges, which Biden’s veto had exacerbated.

This isn’t the first time Johnson has made headlines for his peculiar musings. His infamous “Guam sinking” question, which left many scratching their heads in disbelief, has already cemented his reputation as a congressman more focused on providing entertainment than on effective governance. His latest performance only adds to that legacy, showcasing a recurring theme in the Democratic Party—whenever they are confronted with an opportunity to tackle real issues, they often pivot to petty attacks and absurd hypotheticals about Trump.
Rep. Darrell Issa, a Republican from California, was seated next to Johnson during this spectacle and couldn’t help but make a sardonic jab about the experience of sitting next to his Democratic colleague. Issa’s response underscored the discomfort that many Republicans feel when faced with such antics. The subcommittee’s work is undeniably serious, and interruptions like Johnson’s only serve to distract from crucial discussions that impact the judicial system and the rule of law in America.
Despite the obvious distraction Johnson caused, the Democrats in Congress seem intent on pursuing this combative strategy against Trump, all while their own approval ratings plummet. With polling data revealing a striking preference among American voters for Trump’s agenda—especially regarding border security and reducing government waste—one has to wonder why Democrats remain fixated on attacking a figure who may very well be their party’s most formidable opponent. Perhaps they’re hoping to rally their base with these outlandish attacks, but it seems this strategy is doing little more than amplifying their own internal struggles.
In summary, while Hank Johnson’s latest antics may provide a moment of comic relief for conservative observers, they also highlight a troubling trend among Democrats. Their failure to focus on substantive issues brings into question their readiness to govern effectively. As the political landscape continues to shift, the American people will likely grow weary of the Democratic Party’s penchant for performance art over real solutions.
