Roseanne Barr, the famous comedian behind the successful sitcom “Roseanne,” is back in the news for all the wrong reasons. It’s a shame really, because she had an amazing comeback lined up for her most recent TV show revival, until one tweet officially canceled the entire production.

Ms. Barr’s tweet compared a former Obama official, Valerie Jarrett, to an ape, which is certainly insensitive, but it shouldn’t have been enough to cancel her show. However, ABC thought otherwise, and with a significant Twitter following to back her up, Ms. Barr was unceremoniously fired. Her character was then killed off in a spin-off series, “The Connors.”
This Roseanne Barr clip was sarcasm folks. A clip taken out of a long sarcastic rant she had during our chat. Can we not recognize sarcasm anymore? https://t.co/jIeDcHwlal

It seemed like Ms. Barr should have been financially secure enough to not care, but unfortunately, she continued down a path of self-destruction. Recently, Ms. Barr made comments in a podcast interview that were extremely alarming. She said, sarcastically or not, that “nobody died in the Holocaust” and that “six million Jews should die right now ‘cause they cause all the problems in the world.”
First of all, Ms. Barr is Jewish, so her comments are even more baffling and insensitive. Second, it’s beyond belief that someone could make such horrific comments about the tragic loss of so many people. Even if she was trying to make a point about censorship, this isn’t the time or place.
It’s no surprise that with her continued awful behavior and comments, Ms. Barr will likely never work again. Even John Goodman, her longtime co-star on “Roseanne,” isn’t sure if he would work with her again, despite previously defending her in 2018.
It’s unfortunate that one tweet and a series of terrible comments have ruined Ms. Barr’s career and legacy, but ultimately, this is what happens when you make insensitive and outrageous comments. The political atmosphere is already toxic enough, and Ms. Barr’s comments only add more fuel to the fire. It’s time for her to take a break from the spotlight and reconsider what’s really important.
