Judge Andrew Napolitano dropped some truth bombs about sanctuary cities on Wednesday. The legal expert made it crystal clear that these liberal strongholds cannot block ICE from doing their job. While cities can refuse to help federal immigration agents, they cross the line when they actively obstruct justice.
This is exactly what patriotic Americans have been saying for years. Sanctuary cities have been playing games with our immigration laws while putting citizens at risk. These liberal mayors and city councils think they can pick and choose which federal laws to follow.
Napolitano explained that local authorities do not have to answer ICE questions or spend their own money helping federal agents. But here is where the rubber meets the road. If these cities actively hide illegal immigrants or block federal operations, they are breaking serious laws and could face felony charges.
The judge also pointed out something very important about federal funding. When cities take millions in taxpayer dollars from Washington, they often agree to cooperate with immigration enforcement. If Mayor de Blasio or other liberal leaders signed contracts promising to help ICE, they need to honor those deals or give the money back.
This whole sanctuary city mess has gotten completely out of hand under weak leadership. Cities are literally harboring people who broke our immigration laws while honest Americans foot the bill. That is not compassion, that is lawlessness disguised as virtue signaling.
ICE agents are just trying to do their jobs and keep our communities safe. When cities obstruct federal immigration enforcement, they are putting everyone at risk including their own citizens. No local government should be allowed to interfere with national security operations.
The bottom line is simple. Cities can stay out of immigration enforcement if they want, but they cannot actively work against it. That would be obstructing federal agents and breaking the law, which should result in serious consequences for any officials involved.
It is time for these sanctuary cities to decide what side of the law they want to be on. They can either respect federal authority and keep their communities safe, or they can continue this dangerous game of resistance that puts Americans in harm’s way.
