In another blow to the Democrats, Rep. George Santos (D-NY) pleaded not guilty in federal court on Friday to charges of fraudulent fundraising and credit card fraud. It seems like the swamp just keeps getting swampier!

According to the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York, Santos’s trial is scheduled for September 9, 2024. That’s only a couple of months before next year’s elections, which means this scandal could have serious implications for the Democrats.
This isn’t the first time Santos has been in trouble. He was previously indicted in May on six charges, but now the U.S. Attorney Breon Peace has added 17 new charges in a superseding indictment. It looks like Santos has been busy!
If the allegations are true, Santos and his treasurer conspired to inflate his fundraising totals in order to meet certain benchmarks. Talk about cheating the system! And as if that wasn’t enough, he also allegedly made unauthorized charges to his donors’ credit cards. It’s pretty clear that Santos has no respect for the hardworking people who supported him.
It’s not surprising that there have been calls for Santos’s resignation from both Democrats and Republicans. In fact, Democrats even introduced a resolution to expel him from Congress back in May, but it failed to pass. Now, a group of Republicans in Santos’s own state are pushing for his expulsion, and a vote is expected next week. It’s about time someone holds him accountable!
It’s disappointing to see yet another Democrat caught up in scandal. This just goes to show that corruption knows no party lines. Let’s hope justice is served and the people of New York get the representation they deserve.
