In a groundbreaking decision, the U.S. Supreme Court has struck down race-based affirmative action in college and university admissions, and former President Donald Trump couldn’t be happier. Taking to Truth Social to express his joy, Trump proclaimed, “We’re going back to all merit-based — and that’s the way it should be!”
Finally, the Supreme Court has put an end to a policy that has been lingering on college campuses for far too long. Affirmative action, which was implemented in the aftermath of the civil rights movement, simply didn’t live up to its promise. And in the wake of the Jim Crow era, the idea of “separate but equal” was clearly not delivering the results it had promised for Black Americans.

This decision represents a significant triumph for Trump and his legacy. With the appointment of three conservative justices during his tenure, he successfully shifted the balance of the court in favor of conservatives. And now, with this ruling, the court has once again reaffirmed the importance of meritocracy.
Conservatives, spearheaded by the brilliant Justice Clarence Thomas, have long argued against race-based affirmative action. They have pointed out that it unfairly favors certain minority groups, such as African-Americans, at the expense of high-achieving students. Even Asian students faced discrimination under these policies, fighting against discriminatory quotas set by Ivy League institutions like Harvard. Thankfully, Thursday’s ruling has vindicated their positions.
Justice Thomas, in his concurring opinion, didn’t hold back. He criticized his liberal colleague, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, for promoting a “race-based world view” in her dissent. He rightly pointed out that liberals often push for equal outcomes based on race and skin color, which is an unfair and divisive approach. Instead, he emphasized the importance of recognizing individual accomplishments and experiences, regardless of race or ethnicity.
While acknowledging the historical challenges faced by black Americans, Justice Thomas expressed his optimism that the nation will finally live up to its principles of true colorblind equality. And he’s absolutely right. The ruling provides an opportunity for America to display its commitment to individualism and fairness.
At last, the era of race-based affirmative action is coming to an end. It’s time for our colleges and universities to focus on rewarding excellence and achievement, irrespective of someone’s race. Meritocracy is the way forward, and this Supreme Court ruling is a step in the right direction. America should never settle for anything less than a fair and equal society, driven by individual merit and hard work.
