Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas has criticized President Joe Biden for what he sees as siding with Hamas in the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Cotton accused Biden of effectively supporting a victory for Hamas, which he says is in contrast to Israel’s goal of eliminating Hamas, the group responsible for deadly attacks against Israeli civilians.
Cotton also condemned the Biden administration’s comments on Hamas as “weaselly, mealy-mouthed politics,” particularly remarks from Secretary of State Antony Blinken that suggested both sides had committed wrongdoings. This, according to Cotton, is an attempt to appease the pro-Hamas faction within the Democratic party while disregarding the strong pro-Israel stance of most Americans.

The senator also defended Israel’s military actions, claiming that the country is taking unprecedented measures to prevent civilian casualties. He argued that civilian suffering in Gaza could be avoided if Hamas did not use civilians as shields and if they released hostages taken during the conflict.
Additionally, Cotton raised concerns about Biden’s approach to providing weapons to Israel and suggested that if a different president were in office, the policy toward Israel would be more supportive. He highlighted former President Trump’s commitment to backing Israel and providing necessary weapons.
Furthermore, Cotton addressed reports about potential efforts to negotiate a ceasefire and exchange hostages, emphasizing the need for Hamas to release all hostages in exchange for a ceasefire. He also referenced the possibility of a change in U.S. policy toward Israel depending on the outcome of future elections.
The senator’s remarks underscore a conservative perspective on the conflict, emphasizing support for Israel and criticizing what is perceived as insufficient backing for the country and its efforts to counter Hamas.
