Senate Set to Begin Impeachment Trial of Biden’s Border Chief

The Senate is all set to start the trial of President Joe Biden’s impeached border chief Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Eastern. But hold your horses, folks! It looks like the Democrats are all geared up to put the kibosh on the process. They aim to sweep under the rug the many problems caused by Mayorkas’s pro-migration actions.

Senator Chuck Schumer, who is a Democrat from New York, yells from his soapbox, “Impeachment should not be used to settle a policy spat,” and adds, “This would set an awful precedent for Congress. Every time there’s a policy spat in the House, they send it over here and tie the Senate in knots to do an impeachment trial? That’s absurd. That’s an abuse of the process. That is more chaos.” Clearly, Schumer is not looking to give this trial any love.

Republicans are not having it. They are all ready to roll up their sleeves and dive headfirst into this impeachment trial business. Sen. John Kennedy, a Republican from Louisiana, tells Fox News, “The evidence is devastating. It will gut them like a fish.” Yikes! That sounds fishy, but not in a good way.

Senate’s President Pro Tempore, Sen. Patty Murray, is tasked with presiding over this snazzy trial. She’ll swear in the senators, who will then pledge to follow the Constitution and the Senate’s impeachment rules. It’s like a game of Simon says, but way more serious.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, chimes in, “It would be beneath the Senate’s dignity to shrug off our clear responsibility and fail to give the charges we’ll hear today the thorough consideration they deserve. I will strenuously oppose any effort to table the articles of impeachment and avoid looking the Biden administration’s border crisis squarely in the face.” Democrats are itching to give this trial the cold shoulder, and McConnell is not here for it!

Most Democrats are itching to dismiss the charges, but some might wiggle out due to tight elections. On the other hand, most Republicans are ready to rumble, but a few pro-migration senators might hitch their wagon to the Democrats’ plan.

The articles of impeachment brought forth by Republicans say that Mayorkas has been disobediently ignoring immigration and border security laws, leading to a plethora of aliens illegally entering and staying in the U.S. They claim his actions put national security at risk and put a financial strain on communities across the country. Sounds like a real hootenanny!

Mayorkas has been defending his support for more migration by citing his parents’ immigrant background and his fondness for migrants. He argues that the needs of U.S. business should outweigh any potential inconvenience to regular Americans. Republicans aren’t having it, and the stage is set for a showdown of epic proportions. Giddy up, folks! It’s going to be one heck of a show!
