Sheriffs Urge Biden to Address Border Crisis Threatening Small Towns

Sheriffs across America are singing a familiar tune, and it’s not one from the latest pop charts. More than 40 of them recently penned an open letter to the Biden-Harris administration, vocally condemning their abysmal handling of the border crisis. These lawmen from various states have essentially sounded the alarm, warning that the unchecked influx of migrants threatens to obliterate small-town America as we know it.

The sheriffs assert that the current administration has ushered in between 10 to 15 million illegal immigrants over the past four years. If that doesn’t make one’s head spin, consider that U.S. Customs and Border Protection has reported encounters with over 7 million migrants since President Joe Biden took office. It’s almost as though the welcome mat has been rolled out at the southern border, and the sheriffs insist it’s time to roll it back and prioritize the safety and security of American citizens.

In their letter, the sheriffs sound the alarm on a crisis that knows no geographic bounds. They firmly believe that no community is immune, proclaiming that every American town is, in essence, a “border town.” The sheriffs point out that while Joe Biden has the power to halt this crisis and secure the border—by suspending entry of non-citizens or even redirecting federal funds to build the much-discussed border wall—he has done nothing of the sort. The consequences of this inaction are palpable and growing.

Sheriff James Custer of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, voiced the significant impact on his community. He noted a surge in fentanyl that has left its mark, with overdose deaths rising in the county. Custer reflected on how the problem has persisted over the past three years, leading to an overall health crisis that could be attributed to the openness of the border under the current administration. Statistics show that drug overdoses, particularly from fentanyl, hit staggering numbers; this prompts serious apprehension about the long-term effects on American communities.

Sheriff Bob Songer of Klickitat County, Washington, took his criticism a step further, suggesting that allowing illegal immigrants to remain in the country could be seen as treason. He highlighted just how destructive these so-called open-border policies are, emphasizing that the lack of enforcement creates a significant threat to community safety, with the possibility of migrant criminals intruding into their neighborhoods. While he maintains that crime has yet to be an issue in his county, he has made it abundantly clear that any violations will not be tolerated, indicating that illegal immigrants would find no refuge in his jurisdiction.

In smaller towns like Springfield, Ohio, and Charleroi, Pennsylvania, the sheriffs are witnessing firsthand the ramifications of overwhelming migrant numbers. Springfield has reportedly seen an influx of between 12,000 and 20,000 Haitian migrants, turning the town’s dynamics upside down. Charleroi, with its modest population of around 4,000, has been inundated with at least 2,000 new residents needing education and services, causing local systems to buckle under the strain. Residents in these towns are left grappling with the unknown as they watch their communities shift in ways they never anticipated.

Facing this escalating crisis, the sheriffs are calling for decisive action from the Biden administration. With over half of American voters expressing support for mass deportation of illegal immigrants, it’s clear this issue resonates deeply with the public. The sheriffs deliver a strong message: the safety of American communities is at stake, and inaction from the White House only amplifies their fears about the future.
