Republican Senator Josh Hawley exposed the alarming practices of the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, during a contentious hearing on child sex and labor trafficking. ACF Director Robin Dunn Marcos struggled to explain the agency's failure to adequately vet adults professing to be unaccompanied minors' caretakers during Hawley's interrogation. Marcos was further impeded in his ability to furnish any details regarding the whereabouts of these children subsequent to their release from government custody.

Hawley confronted Marcos directly: "Do you genuinely believe that your release of these children to labor and, yes, sex traffickers, will aid and assist them?" "85,000 children with whom you have no contact, and your response is that we gave them a presentation before turning them over to these individuals who are exploiting them on a scale not seen in this country in a century," he emphasized in reference to the vast number of lost children. The exchange was abhorrent, exposing the ACF's egregious carelessness and callousness.
The New York Times recently published disgusting details of child labor at Perdue Farms in Virginia, as if the ACF's failures were not enough. This reveals the alarming magnitude of juvenile labor and human trafficking in our nation even more clearly. Assuming that the ACF and other government agencies are failing to protect these defenseless children from such heinous exploitation is a disgrace.
The Biden administration's priorities are manifestly grossly misaligned. Progressivism appears to be their primary concern, as opposed to border security and the fight against human trafficking of children, which are both critical issues that require attention. This disregard for safety and security not only endangers the lives of these vulnerable children, but also compromises the security and safety of our nation. Action and accountability are required to terminate this horrifying situation.
