California Governor Gavin Newsom is making headlines, but not in the way he had hoped. In a comical yet embarrassing moment, Newsom collided with a child while playing basketball and even playfully spanked him. The governor’s attempt to show off his fancy ball-handling skills ended in laughter from him and astonishment from the onlooking children.

This incident might overshadow Newsom’s recent trip to China, where he discussed climate change with top Chinese officials. Despite the trip being criticized by eight Republican members of Congress who raised concerns about China’s human rights abuses and fentanyl production, Newsom has been aggressively trying to raise his profile and elevate his political aspirations.
While President Biden deals with international conflicts, Newsom has taken on the role of attacking the Republican presidential field, calling them a “JV league” compared to former President Donald Trump. He also gained favor with progressives by appointing Laphonza Butler, a Black woman, to replace the late Senator Dianne Feinstein.
However, Newsom hasn’t been able to escape controversy. Fox News recently uncovered his connections to Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, during Hunter’s tax evasion troubles. Emails from Hunter’s laptop revealed that he sought new business connections from Newsom while wining and dining one of Newsom’s lobbyists. Newsom even reached out to Hunter personally after he was dismissed from the Navy for cocaine use.
This incident highlights Newsom’s lack of judgment and questionable associations. It’s clear that he is more interested in self-promotion than addressing the concerns of the American people. California deserves a leader who prioritizes their well-being over personal ambitions.
