The Pentagon finally took some action against Iranian facilities in Syria that were reportedly being used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and militias affiliated with them. This comes after multiple attacks targeting U.S. forces in the Middle East, including drone and rocket attacks. It’s about time we see some response from the Biden administration.

It’s good to see someone like Richard Goldberg, a senior advisor to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, calling out the slow reaction time of the U.S. government. He rightly points out that we should wait for more details on the strike before giving too much praise. Who and what exactly got hit? We need to know the full story.
Goldberg also highlights the low bar set by the Biden administration in terms of retaliation. We can’t be satisfied with the lowest possible response after a week of waiting. We need to think strategically and consider the perspective of Tehran, not Washington.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made it clear that Iran will not be able to hide its role in these attacks against our forces. He promised that if attacks continue, further measures will be taken to protect our people. But why hasn’t this logic been applied to other Iran-backed attacks? This is an important question that needs to be answered.
In the end, whether or not the U.S. strikes were effective, we can’t continue treating different Iran-backed groups differently. It’s time to take a strong and unified stance against all of them.
