Supreme Court Greenlights Assault Weapons Ban: Your Guns at Risk?

In a disappointing move, the U.S. Supreme Court has declined to issue a temporary block on a radical Illinois law that bans “assault weapons.” This means that the state can proceed with its plan to implement the ban on January 1st. The court issued an unsigned brief with no explanation for their decision, leaving gun owners and constitutionalists scratching their heads.

The law, known as the Protect Illinois Communities Act, restricts the sale and purchase of semi-automatic “assault weapons” and high-capacity magazines. The ban includes popular firearms like the AR-15 and AK-47 rifles. However, the law’s definition of “large-capacity” magazines is misleading because it includes standard-sized magazines used in the everyday gun industry. This means that the ban actually targets normal, everyday gun accessories rather than “large capacity” devices.

This unconstitutional law was rushed through the left-wing, Democrat-controlled state legislature and signed by Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker. It was a knee-jerk reaction to a tragic shooting that took place at an Independence Day parade in Highland Park, where a deranged individual used a semi-automatic rifle to kill seven people and wound 48 others.

Despite the Supreme Court’s refusal to intervene, the battle against this outrageous ban is far from over. Gun owners in Illinois have been slow to comply with the law, with only about 0.1 percent of registered gun owners registering their firearms as required. Many sheriffs in the state have also made it clear that they will not enforce the ban in their jurisdictions, citing it as a clear violation of the Second Amendment.

The Illinois ban clearly infringes on the rights of law-abiding citizens and undermines the principles of the Constitution. The Founding Fathers intended for all Americans to have the same firearms as the military, and this law violates that principle by reserving ownership for state operatives only. This fight is far from over, and it is crucial that lawful gun owners and Americans everywhere continue to stand up against this outrageous ban.
