A Nevada American history teacher is up in arms after discovering major errors in a Black History Month activity book she purchased at Target. Tierra Espy, a high school teacher in Las Vegas, was shocked to find that the Civil Rights Magnetic Learning Activity book she bought contained inaccurate information about iconic civil rights leaders. After realizing the wrong names and images were associated with important figures like Carter G. Woodson, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Booker T. Washington, she took to social media to express her outrage in a viral TikTok video.
Espy, who had initially intended to give the activity book to her children, was appalled by the blatant inaccuracies and felt compelled to warn others about the product’s flaws. As a U.S. history teacher, she felt a duty to address the discrepancies and demand immediate action to rectify the situation. Her video gained widespread attention, prompting Target to swiftly respond by removing the erroneous item from its shelves and website.

Target’s decision to pull the flawed product may come as a relief to consumers, given the retail giant’s history of controversial merchandise, such as Pride-themed products that sparked customer criticism and boycotts. Last year, Target faced backlash over its offering of a black Santa Claus ornament in a wheelchair and a Pride-themed “gay nutcracker” Christmas ornament. This recent misstep with the inaccurate Black History Month activity book only adds to the company’s track record of misfires in the eyes of conservative individuals who are tired of woke corporate virtue signaling.
