Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has targeted California’s sanctuary city status by transporting the first group of undocumented individuals to the state. Abbott recently announced that he would be using buses to transport immigrants to various “sanctuary cities” like Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Denver.

He expressed concerns about the overwhelming number of people illegally crossing into Texas from Mexico due to President Biden’s failure to secure the border, especially affecting smaller border towns. Abbott emphasized that Texas would continue offering relief to these communities until the President takes action to address the border crisis.

By taking this action, Abbott aimed to highlight the alleged hypocrisy of California’s sanctuary protections for illegal immigrants. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass criticized Abbott’s move as a political stunt, but the governor made it clear that he would not tolerate politicians playing games with human lives. He urged Los Angeles to address its sanctuary city policies and rise to the challenge.
Given the daily influx of illegal immigrants, it will be interesting to observe California’s response as it maintains its sanctuary status while accepting undocumented individuals.
