Texas Tenacity: AG Ken Paxton Squares Off Against Baseless Impeachment!

Impeachment of state Attorney General Ken Paxton pled not guilty to all 16 articles of impeachment after the Republican-dominated Senate refused to drop the charges. His attorneys, who were always prepared to defend him, vehemently proclaimed his innocence and denied each allegation. One of Paxton's attorneys, Tony Buzbee, asserted confidently, "Everything… said there was false. Accordingly, Attorney General Ken Paxton enters a not-guilty plea." If they say something is false, then it must be false, right?

Midway through the confession process, however, a House manager interrupted and asked Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick to silence Paxton's attorneys. Apparently, they were attempting to turn the plea into a full-blown speech. People, you can't blame them for wanting to put on a show, but adhere to the facts!

What are the realities, then? Paxton faces a total of 16 of the 20 allegations that were filed against him by the House in May. The Senate panel resolved to concentrate on these 16 charges, leaving Paxton's fate in the hands of the 31-member Senate, which is comprised of 19 Republicans and 12 Democrats. Here's the catch: two-thirds of the Senate, or 21 senators, must vote in favor of the allegations in order for Paxton to be convicted. Not exactly an effortless task!

Oh, and state Senator Angela Paxton, Paxton's wife, is not permitted to vote during the trial. That means the total number of Republican voting members reduces to 18. We all know how essential it is for conservatives to fight for what's right, so let's hope they maintain their resolve and support their man.
