The hosts of The View need to take a chill pill and stop hyping up Taylor Swift as some political powerhouse. The idea that the Republican Party should be “a little bit afraid” of a pop singer is just plain ridiculous. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin’s claim that GOP members are creating conspiracy theories about Swift because they “can’t win an election” is laughable. The only conspiracy here is the one they’re trying to cook up about Swift’s influence.

Whoopi Goldberg’s questioning of what the Republican Party is doing for younger voters is equally ridiculous. What are they doing? How about promoting policies that actually benefit younger people, instead of banking on celebrity endorsements to do all the heavy lifting? The fact that they’re fixated on Taylor Swift because they allegedly “don’t know what to do” is just sad.
And as for Sonny Hostin’s claim that Republicans should be “a little bit afraid” of Swift because of her Instagram following and voter registration influence, they need to get a grip. There’s no need for Republicans to fear someone just because of their social media stats. If anything, they should be wary of falling for the left’s attempt to use celebrities as political pawns.
Let’s not forget that Swift endorsed President Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Big shocker there, right? The left-leaning singer throwing her support behind the Democratic candidate is hardly a reason for the Republican Party to quake in their boots. And the fact that Biden is tied in the polls with Trump among younger voters, a category Biden won by 20 percentage points in the 2020 election, doesn’t exactly scream “game-changer” either.
As for Swift’s social media post encouraging voter registrations, the hoopla over 35,000 new voter registrations is overblown. Let’s not forget that she was targeting her fan base, which likely skews young and liberal. Governor Gavin Newsom’s praise for Swift’s post as “profoundly powerful” is just more evidence of the left trying to milk celebrity endorsements for all they’re worth.
The View’s overzealous portrayal of Taylor Swift’s influence on politics is an exercise in wishful thinking. The Republican Party has nothing to fear from a pop star with a big Instagram following and a penchant for endorsing Democratic candidates. It’s time for The View to stop pushing this celebrity-driven narrative and focus on real issues that matter to Americans.
