Recently on a popular talk show that often feels more like a circus than a discussion, the guests got into a spicy debate over whether President Trump is, as some would say, as racist as a Halloween costume gone wrong. Guest host Savannah Chrysley jumped into the fray, suggesting that the President isn’t what all the haters claim he is, and boy, did she open up a can of worms! You could practically feel the tension in the air thick enough to cut with a butter knife, as the permanent hosts shot her looks that could curdle milk.
Chrysley’s defense was as surprising as finding a blog post about broccoli on a dessert site. She pointed out that she’s seen Trump while he’s been around some of her friends, one of whom is a Black woman he supposedly helped greatly. You know what they say: having a Black friend is the ultimate “Get Out of Racism Free” card! It’s almost like a social checkmark for some folks. The crux of the debate seemed to be that having diverse friendships magically makes you immune to accusations of racism. It’s like saying if you eat kale, you can’t have a heart attack. But, as we all know, life is more nuanced than a one-size-fits-all diet plan. Just because he’s posed for pictures with a few people of color doesn’t mean Trump should be off the hook for the countless verbal faux pas he’s committed. We’ve all heard the stories, right?

Who needs polite conversation when you can win a debate, even if that means completely bypassing reason?
