This news comes after McCarthy confirmed that he would not be seeking to regain the Speaker’s chair. Jordan, with his strong conservative credentials and history of leading investigations into the Biden family, is seen as a natural choice by many members of the caucus.

Gaetz has called Jordan a “mentor” and believes that he would be a “great” choice as Speaker. In an interview with Sean Hannity, Jordan was asked whether former President Donald Trump had been contacted about the possibility of becoming Speaker. Jordan responded by saying that Trump would be “great” in the role but should aim higher and run for President instead. Hannity reminded him that a non-member of Congress can hold the position of Speaker, opening up the possibility for Trump to take on the role.
This announcement by Jordan adds yet another unpredictable twist to the ongoing drama within the Republican Party.
