In a shocking turn of events, a routine traffic stop took a deadly turn when a woman, Yareni Rios-Gonzalez, was left helpless in a police cruiser that was struck by an oncoming train. Officer Jordan Steinke, who was in charge of the detainment, tried to save her at the last moment but was unsuccessful. It’s a heart-wrenching video that captures the devastating collision.
The incident occurred near US85 and County Rd. 36 just north of Platteville. It all started with reports of a road rage incident involving a firearm in Ft. Lupton earlier that evening. Officer Steinke, doing her duty as a member of the Platteville Police Department, initiated a traffic stop on US85 and County Rd. 36. Little did she know that fate had a tragic twist waiting for her.

Lawsuits were quickly filed in the aftermath, and it’s not surprising given the egregiousness of the mistakes made during this chaotic stop. Officer Steinke and another police officer now face multiple charges, including reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, and criminal attempt to commit manslaughter. Their actions should not be taken lightly, as they put innocent lives at risk through their negligence and lack of proper judgment.
In light of these charges, Officer Steinke was found guilty of reckless endangerment but acquitted of the more serious charge of attempting to commit manslaughter. This verdict may provide some closure, but it does not erase the pain and suffering experienced by Rios-Gonzalez and her family.
