Trump and RNC Net $160 Million in September, Energizing GOP Base

The latest fundraising figures from the Donald Trump camp have Republicans in high spirits, as the former president and the Republican National Committee raked in over $160 million in September alone. This marks a significant increase of $30 million from August, proving once again that ordinary Americans—who presumably don’t have anything better to do than dig deep into their pockets for the America First movement—are backing Trump in droves.

An astounding 96% of donations came from contributors giving $200 or less, with the average donation resting comfortably at a mere $60. What this suggests is that the grassroots support for Trump is alive and well, unlike the hope of many leftists who continually harp on the notion that the GOP is only funded by the rich. With a staggering $283 million on hand as Election Day looms under five weeks away, it seems more and more likely that the small enlistments from Americans in their everyday battles will continue to fuel Trump’s march toward a potential victory.

Trump’s August figures were notable for being the first complete reporting period following a shocking assassination attempt on him in Butler, Pennsylvania. His bold call to arms during such a tumultuous event energized supporters and undoubtedly played a part in the September surge. Of course, it’s worth mentioning the more recent interruption to his golf game which came with its own brush with death on September 15. These incidents only seem to harden the resolve of Trump’s base, who have shown they are ready to battle for what they believe.

Even as the Trump campaign celebrates its windfall, ominous clouds hover over the horizon, especially when considering the record $248 million raised four years ago during the same September period. Comparisons to the Democrats are equally distressing as Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, which recently replaced President Biden as the Democratic nominee, has consistently outpaced Trump. Harris’s campaign has already sent substantial funds to other Democrats, leaving downballot Republicans scrambling to counterbalance the fundraising gap.

Amidst all of this, congressional Republicans have raised alarms that the GOP could be headed toward a disaster if the fundraising problems are not addressed. The National Republican Senatorial Committee recently had to make the tough call to cut back on its advertising spends, which indicates that even after the excitement of a Trump rally, there may be some serious concerns about the party’s financial capability moving forward.

With the election just around the corner, the fundraising prowess of the Trump campaign, gathered primarily from average Americans, stands in stark contrast to the big-money donations that Democrats seem to stack in their favor. While Trump rallies enjoy fervent support, it remains critical for Republicans to rally their funding as well. It’s a classic case of the little guys versus the seemingly unshakeable machinery of the Democratic Party—a battle that, if waged properly, could lead to a resounding success on Election Day.
