Trump Attack Sparks Blame Game Between Parties

In a shocking twist that seems straight out of a bad movie script, an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump occurred recently, and the blame game is already underway. Democrats are ringing alarm bells, labeling Trump as the biggest threat to democracy, as if he’s somehow worse than, say, a poorly-rated sitcom. Meanwhile, Trump’s supporters point fingers at the outrageous political rhetoric from the Left, claiming it has inspired wild-eyed leftist zealots to take drastic actions.

The would-be assassin, Ryan Routh, decided a golfing outing at Trump International Golf Course was the perfect opportunity to channel his inner action hero. Concealing himself in the bushes for hours—one can only wonder what exactly he was hiding from, reality perhaps—he armed himself with a scoped AK-47. However, after spotting a Secret Service agent, he apparently thought better of his plan, fleeing the scene without even pulling the trigger. It seems that hiding in the bushes doesn’t guarantee a free pass from the long arm of the law, especially when that law includes a watchful Secret Service.

Trump was quick to connect the dots between Democrat rhetoric and the attempted attack. His contention is that the incendiary language from the likes of President Biden and Vice President Harris acts as little more than a dangerous call to arms for those unstable enough to take it literally. It seems that the notion of accountability is lost on many Democrats, who dismiss the idea that their words could possibly influence someone to attempt murder. This led to one Democrat, Senator Chris Coons, ironically calling the suggestion “ridiculous,” all while the consequences of their words hang in the air like last week’s cold leftovers.

Routh’s history paints a picture of a man who fell deeply into the anti-Trump rabbit hole after initially supporting him in 2016. His 2023 self-published book, which laid out his case for Trump’s assassination, comes off as equal parts obsession and bizarre Jefferson Starship fan fiction. To add to his credentials, Routh had a history of run-ins with law enforcement, suggesting that perhaps he was living in a world where logic and reason took a permanent vacation. Yet, instead of taking responsibility for his actions, Democrats decry fears of election-related violence as mere “fearmongering.”

In true political fashion, some Democrats have brushed off the assassination attempt, claiming that if anyone is to blame, it should be Trump himself for feeding the narrative of violence. Of course, this is classic deflection at its best. When actual messages from the Left like “Trump is a threat to our democracy” echo through the halls of power, one has to wonder just how far the Left is willing to go to ensure that they don’t take a shred of responsibility for the chaos they often enable.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer recently toned down his usual vitriol, reminding fellow lawmakers that political violence is off-limits—an interesting stance considering the environment his party has fostered. Democrats continue to whine about Trump’s alleged threats to democracy while conveniently ignoring the fact that it is their rhetoric that might be stirring the pot. As investigations proceed into Routh’s motives, one thing is clear: the political landscape is as tumultuous as ever, and the Left’s rhetoric might just be the spark that lights the flame, forcing rational discourse into hiding.
