There's some major news about the hoopla surrounding the Georgia election interference case against former President Donald Trump! Friday is the big day, folks — it’s the end of the two-week deadline set by a judge to figure out whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis needs to be canned from the case.

It all started with Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee hearing tons of gabbing about whether Willis’s lovey-dovey time with Nathan Wade, one of the top prosecutors in the case, causes a big ol’ conflict of interest, possibly booting her from the party. Now, we’re all sitting on pins and needles, waiting to hear McAfee’s final word on the matter.
The judge wants to make sure everyone knows that he’s not dilly-dallying around; he’s sticking to the timeline he set. He says, “I made a promise to everybody. These kind of orders take time to write. I need to say exactly what I want to, and I plan to stick to the timeline I gave everyone.” He also wants to let everyone know that “no ruling of mine is ever going to be based on politics. I’m going to be following the law the best I understand it.”
So, here’s the skinny: Team Trump and some of the other 14 party animals joined forces to say Willis and Wade are up to no good. They claim Willis and Wade were off gallivanting on vacations and cruises, and Wade used his own moolah to pay for it. Willis and Wade say it’s all hogwash and that Willis paid him back with cash she had stashed at home.
McAfee has the whole shebang in his hands. He can kick out Willis and Wade, just one of them, or keep ’em together with a slap on the wrist. If Willis gets the boot, the whole mess might get handed over to the Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia. But, even if Willis sticks around, it’s still up in the air when this hullabaloo will actually get to trial. Legal eagles think Trump could stretch this brouhaha into 2025, especially if he wins another election. And let’s not forget, Willis has to decide if she’s going to add more charges to the case.
