Former President Donald Trump is absolutely fuming over Pennsylvania’s latest decision to make voter registration automatic. He is convinced that this move will spell disaster for Republicans, especially as he gears up for a potential presidential run in 2024. Taking to his new favorite platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed his outrage, calling the decision “totally Unconstitutional” and demanding action from Republican leaders in Washington and Pennsylvania.
Not one to shy away from boasting about his popularity, Trump couldn’t resist taking a dig at his potential opponents in the upcoming debates, claiming to be leading by a whopping 50 points. As the former president gears up for another potential bid for the White House, he is clearly not pleased about Pennsylvania potentially becoming a stumbling block in his path to victory.
On the other side of the aisle, Democratic Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro defends the automatic registration process as a “commonsense step to ensure election security and save Pennsylvanians time and tax dollars.” He argues that since residents already provide proof of identity, residency, age, and citizenship when obtaining their driver’s licenses, it only makes sense to streamline the process with voter registration.

While Democrats may see this move as an effort to make voting more accessible and secure, Trump sees it as an opportunity for “lunatics, Marxists & Fascists” to cheat the system once again. Raising the specter of election fraud, a familiar theme from his post-2020 loss narrative, Trump calls on Republicans to take action and prevent this “disaster” from happening.
With Pennsylvania offering a significant 19 electoral votes in the next presidential contest, both President Biden and Trump’s potential GOP opponents understand the importance of winning the state. It remains to be seen how this automatic registration decision will impact the political landscape in Pennsylvania, but one thing is clear: Trump is not going down without a fight.
