Former President Donald Trump threw his support behind North Carolina’s Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, comparing him to civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. during a fiery rally in Greensboro ahead of Super Tuesday. Trump didn’t hold back, boldly declaring, “This is Martin Luther King on steroids.” He even went as far as to tell Robinson, “I think you’re better than Martin Luther King. I think you are Martin Luther King times two.” Quite the endorsement, folks!
But it didn’t stop there. Robinson, a controversial figure known for his no-nonsense approach and unapologetic rhetoric, has received backlash from the left for his bold statements. Despite the uproar, Trump stood firm in his support. Robinson, visibly taken aback by the comparison to MLK, expressed his humility at receiving the backing of the former president. “Humbled” is the word he used. And he’s eager to join forces with Trump to secure a resounding win for the GOP in the upcoming elections.
However, the liberals couldn’t resist taking shots at Robinson, with some expressing concerns about his electability. The state’s Republican treasurer, Dale Folwell, even went as far as to label Robinson as someone “trying to rise to power through hate.” Classic Democrat smear tactics, right?
But that’s not all. The Democratic side is gearing up for a fight, and they’ve wasted no time in painting Robinson as the epitome of extremism in North Carolina’s political history. From perpetuating antisemitic tropes to making anti-LGBT remarks, Robinson’s actions have certainly ruffled some feathers. Yet, the liberal media’s attempts to tarnish his image were met with a firm rebuttal from Robinson’s campaign spokesman, who accused the Democrats and their allies of shamelessly stooping low to smear the lieutenant governor.
In the end, it’s clear that the battle lines have been drawn. With State Attorney General Josh Stein poised to lead the Democratic charge, the stage is set for a clash of ideologies like no other. So, grab your popcorn, because the political showdown in North Carolina is about to get a whole lot more interesting, folks!
