The Times’ own writers might be scratching their heads, but there’s a reasonable explanation for this unexpected bump. It likely has a lot to do with the recent partnership forged between Trump and the independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Kennedy, having grown weary of the Democrat status quo centered on endless wars, censorship, and the actual endangerment of children, took the stage at an Arizona rally and declared his intention to join forces with Trump. This anti-establishment alliance can only serve to galvanize those disillusioned by the current administration’s policies, as Americans rally together to challenge an entrenched establishment that has shown itself to be more concerned with political correctness than the needs of the populace. Now, if voters are paying attention, they can’t help but notice the circus surrounding Harris. The once-favored Vice President has shown a stunning reluctance to engage in unscripted dialogue, often appearing to dissolve into a jumble of word salad whenever a tough question arises. Her track record as “border czar” has not helped her case either, as many Americans observe her backflipping on critical policies. The realization is dawning—not all voters are willing to overlook her inconsistencies.
To put things into perspective, previous polling from Times/Siena notoriously claimed Biden had an 11-point lead in Wisconsin in 2020, only for Trump to ultimately win by a mere sliver of a point. If Trump leads Harris by one in this latest poll, it’s reasonable to suspect his actual advantage might be even greater.
