Trump edges past Harris in new poll as VP’s favorability plummets

The race for the 2024 presidential nomination has taken an interesting turn, with former President Donald Trump nosing ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a fresh Wall Street Journal poll. This polling snapshot shows Trump leading Harris by a slim 47% to 45%, a delightful twist when one considers that just a few months ago, Harris was bragging about a 2-point lead. But hey, who needs steady stats when you have the power of denial?

Harris’s approval ratings are doing a nosedive that might as well be the subject of a Hollywood disaster movie. If August was sunny with a 50% favorability among voters, the current 45% approval is like stepping into a thunderstorm. Meanwhile, a shocking 53% of voters now view her unfavorably. Harris’s job performance ratings hit rock bottom with a notable 54% disapproval rate, proving that when your best performance is an outright disaster, it might be time to reassess.

It seems voters are putting their trust in Trump — a concept that might be hard for some to wrap their heads around, but the numbers are clear: he is seen as more reliable than Harris on crucial issues such as the economy and immigration. The poll reveals Trump now boasts a 12-point advantage on economic matters and a staggering 15-point lead regarding immigration. Nothing says “America First” quite like a former president who still knows how to connect with the folks over issues that matter.

Meanwhile, the VP, in an apparent attempt to revive her waning approval, is set to campaign in Georgia alongside the dynamic duo of Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen. Trump, on the other hand, is embracing his grassroots appeal by supporting rallies in Arizona and Nevada, aiming to flip these swing states back into the Republican fold. The stakes are high as recent state polls reveal neck-and-neck races across key battlegrounds, a sure sign that the Trump train is leaving the station, and it may not be stopping for tea with the fading Harris campaign.

In Harris’s recent town hall appearance, things took a turn for the funny when she was grilled about her past support for decriminalizing illegal immigration—a stance that now seems to haunt her like a bad sitcom rerun. Now trying to play the tough border security card, her responses were as vacuous as they were cringe-worthy. When asked about building the border wall, she parroted an overly rehearsed line about securing the border, which sent viewers scrambling to find the off switch on their TVs.

Harris’s supposed “fresh perspective” faced skepticism, particularly from none other than Anderson Cooper, who pointed out the elephant in the room: if she’s so big on change, why hasn’t there been any substantial change during her nearly four years in office? Her response was about as clear as mud, dancing around accountability while snarkily insisting she was bringing “different experiences.” It was a master class in avoiding a straightforward answer, leading to confusion more than clarity—perhaps a tactic taken right out of any office comedy worth its salt.

In her twisty explanation regarding her weaknesses, Harris delivered a line that would leave even Michael Scott scratching his head. Describing her penchant for surrounding herself with intelligent people, she tossed in a catchphrase about “kicking the tires.” Might want to test drive those ideas too, Harris, because the roads ahead are getting bumpier, and the voters are looking for a vehicle that can actually make it to the finish line without stalling.
