Trump Media Hits Back: Sues 20 Outlets Over “Fake News” Conspiracy

Former President Donald Trump has been dealing with a media frenzy, and his media company is firing back with a vengeance. Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) has filed a lawsuit against 20 media outlets for their alleged conspiracy to attack the company and sabotage its business opportunities. The lawsuit claims that the media outlets engaged in an unprecedented and coordinated campaign to spread false information about the financial status of Trump’s media and technology group.

The lawsuit specifically targets the mainstream media for promulgating the false claim that TMTG and Truth Social had lost $73 million. The lawsuit alleges that this number was completely fabricated and refers to it as the very epitome of “fake news.” It points out that each media outlet reported the exact same false number within 24 hours of each other, suggesting a coordinated effort to defame and harm the company’s reputation.

The timing of these reports is particularly suspicious, coming in the midst of merger activity between TMTG and Digital World Acquisition Corporation (DWAC). This merger is crucial for TMTG’s business plan, as it would allow the company to become publicly traded and access funds for investment and expansion. However, the lawsuit alleges that the establishment media seized on DWAC’s publicly available statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to spread false information about TMTG’s financial standing.

The media outlets named in the lawsuit include Reuters, The Hollywood Reporter, The Miami Herald, The Hill, Deadline, Marketwatch, Benzinga, Forbes, Axios, Daily Beast, The Guardian, Salon, Gizmodo, CNBC, MSNBC, Newsweek, the New York Daily News, Mediaite, and the UK’s Daily Mail. All of these outlets are accused of defamation and injurious falsehood in the suit, which was filed in Florida’s 12th Circuit Court. The lawsuit is demanding a jury trial and seeking $1.5 billion in damages, plus court costs.

In response to the lawsuit, some of the media outlets named have updated or corrected their reports, while others have not issued any corrections or updates at all. It’s clear that the fight between Trump’s media company and the mainstream media is far from over.

The lawsuit is a bold and unapologetic move by Trump Media & Technology Group to hold the mainstream media accountable for what they perceive as a coordinated effort to smear their reputation. It remains to be seen how this legal battle will unfold, but one thing is for sure: tensions between the media and conservative figures like Donald Trump are as high as ever.
