Trump Pardons Over 20 Pro-Life Activists Undermined by Biden DOJ

Donald Trump, in a move that any rational observer would see as a breath of fresh air amidst the murky waters of Biden’s decision-making, pardoned over 20 pro-life activists who faced legal troubles courtesy of the current administration’s Department of Justice. The former president made waves by referring to the prosecution of these advocates as “ridiculous,” highlighting that many of those affected were elderly citizens who were unjustly treated simply for standing firm in their beliefs.

Timing is everything in politics, they say, and this couldn’t have come at a more poignant moment. Trump’s pardons came just one day prior to the 52nd annual March for Life, an event that draws crowds from all corners of the nation to spotlight the importance of the pro-life movement. The stark contrast between Trump’s actions and the Biden administration’s punitive measures illustrates a growing chasm in how each administration views the sanctity of life. Trump’s bold act of clemency was a political statement against an administration that has seemed more comfortable targeting citizens who advocate for life than tackling actual crime.

Under the FACE Act, intended to balance rights at reproductive health clinics, the scales have decidedly tipped toward the anti-life camp, with a staggering 97 percent of prosecutions under this law targeting pro-life activists. While the law was drafted with a veneer of neutrality, it has become a bludgeon in the hands of the Biden DOJ to intimidate peaceful pro-life advocates. In fact, according to Representative Chip Roy, a Republican from Texas, Biden’s Justice Department has prosecuted more than a quarter of the FACE cases since the law’s inception, focusing primarily on those advocating for innocent life rather than addressing aggression against pregnancy resource centers.

Adding salt to the wound, it was revealed that the DOJ’s tactics included using antiquated conspiracy laws to ramp up sentencing and conducting SWAT-style raids against peaceful activists— tactics that would leave most Americans questioning whether they were living in a free society or a dystopian nightmare. Targeting individuals such as an elderly survivor of communist persecution and a devoted Christian father of eleven surely turns a blind eye toward justice and into the realm of oppressive governance. It’s hard to imagine a world where the government harasses grandmothers and families for merely trying to protect the most vulnerable.

In a fitting response to these circumstances, the Thomas More Society took steps to seek justice for these individuals, submitting official petitions for presidential pardons. Their efforts culminated in Trump ratifying these requests, restoring the dignity and rights wrongfully stripped away by the current administration. It’s a bittersweet victory, though, as many of these activists will now have to reckon with the heavy toll that unjust imprisonment imposed upon them.

Chiming in, Roy and Senator Mike Lee have reintroduced a bill to repeal the FACE Act entirely. This move aims to end what they describe as an unconstitutional federal overreach and to ensure that no future administration can weaponize this law against citizens standing up for their beliefs. With an impressive 97 percent of FACE prosecutions aimed at pro-life activists, it is only logical that this draconian measure is dismantled, further affirming the principle that in America, justice should serve the people, not the agenda of those holding power.
