Former President Donald Trump recently explained his rationale for not throwing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton behind bars during a podcast with Lex Fridman. Apparently, when it came to choosing between justice and political optics, Trump chose the latter, believing that imprisoning Clinton would only serve to further divide an already polarized nation. After winning the 2016 election, Trump seemed to prioritize national unity over holding Clinton accountable for her alleged transgressions. Anyone who remembers the laundry list of questionable activities surrounding Clinton’s private email server might wonder how one would even weigh this decision.
Back in the campaign chaos of 2016, Clinton wasn’t just a political adversary; she was a walking scandal, using a private server to sidestep transparency. Calls for her imprisonment rang out like a chorus of angry patriots, but instead, Trump decided to act like the adult in the room. After all, it wouldn’t look good for the new president to jail the former Secretary of State, who also happened to be married to a former president. The optics were apparently more pressing than Clinton’s apparent disregard for the law, which is a fantastic way to redefine morality in politics.
The interview took another interesting turn when Trump reflected on his decision not to prosecute Hillary Clinton, saying, “She’s so lucky I didn’t do anything.”

When it came to the far-left Democrats, they had a different take on the matter. They were ready to burn the midnight oil, howling about Trump coming to power and acting like an unhinged dictator. Conveniently forgotten by these doomsayers is the fact that Trump served a full term and didn’t initiate a single dictatorship-level crisis. Instead, he held back when it came to punishing his political opponents. However, he has faced relentless legal battles under the political machinations designed to eliminate him from the political landscape, which serves only to reinforce the narrative of a “banana republic” emerging right here in America.
In stark contrast to Trump’s cautious approach, the Democrats have gone all in for a scorched-earth policy. They’ve unleashed a barrage of politically motivated indictments against Trump, orchestrated by leftist district attorneys with more ambition than integrity. Just look at Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, who conjured up a legal theory so flimsy it could be mistaken for a plot from a daytime soap opera. Without any clear victim, Democrats are bending the law to pursue Trump for “crimes” that make for good headlines but little in the way of justice.
In the whirlwind conversation with Fridman, Trump expressed his dismay over the state of politics today, underscoring the real threat posed by the current administration: the weaponization of the justice system against political opponents. The insistence of the left to parade him through a series of flimsy legal challenges smacks of desperation, as they fear they can’t beat him at the ballot box. Trump pointed out that while he practiced restraint and sought unity, the Democrats are hell-bent on tearing down the very fabric of democracy by playing judge and jury from the sidelines.
