In a bold stroke of leadership, President Donald Trump has once again demonstrated his commitment to putting America First by revamping the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. For over a century, this commission has served as a gatekeeper for our national aesthetics, advising Congress and the President on how federal architecture reflects our American values. But under current conditions, it had become a bastion of liberal elitism, cut off from the true spirit of American greatness.
This week, Trump sent a clear message by cleaning house, dismissing all of his establishment-aligned members. The decision comes as a refreshing reset from the previous administration’s misguided approach, which favored so-called “diverse” perspectives over the classical excellence envisioned by our Founding Fathers. The likes of Bruce Redman Becker and Billie Tsien have seen the door, no longer able to push their liberal architectural dogmas on federal projects. It’s about time someone stood up to these ivory tower architects, more concerned with pleasing globalist aesthetics than celebrating the American identity.

The President’s move echoes a much-needed call back to the inspirations of history’s greatest builders: the styles of ancient Greece, Rome, and the early days of the Republic. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson modeled the original visions of our capital city on these timeless forms. They understood that buildings are not just functional objects—they are symbols of our nation’s enduring principles and democratic roots. Modern architecture often makes you feel like you’re trapped in a bland, soulless concrete box. It’s an affront to our heritage and our history.
Some will cry foul, pointing fingers at this so-called “purge,” but let’s not forget that President Joe Biden did the very same thing, ousting Trump appointees to push his woke agenda. The left is quick to act like the victim when the tables are turned—classic hypocrisy. Biden’s picks were paraded as a diverse lineup, yet mostly served to dilute the strong American styles that inspire patriotism and pride.
Trump’s critics should consider the benefits of supporting designs that uplift rather than diminish. Do we really want our capital, the face of our nation, obscured by a mishmash of styles that cater to the desires of the woke elite? If anything, Trump’s course correction is a sign of a leader who understands that American greatness is worth fighting for, even in the realm of art and architecture.
Will these changes finally bring forth a renaissance in American federal architecture, or will they be met with stubborn resistance from a left-leaning bureaucracy that scorns traditional beauty? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: with architects informed by an America First perspective, our nation is poised to reclaim its rightful sense of historic grandeur.
