Trump Surpasses Biden in Latest Virginia Poll, Signals Blue State Shift

In a surprise twist that’s sure to have the liberal media clutching their pearls, Donald Trump has taken a narrow lead over Joe Biden in Virginia, a state once considered solidly blue. According to a Virginia Commonwealth University-Wilder School poll, Trump leads with 39% compared to Biden’s dwindling 36%. The survey sampled 806 adults across the commonwealth from June 24 through July 3, so it captured impressions right around the rowdy June 27 debate between Trump and Biden but wrapped up just before the assassination attempt on Trump on Saturday.

The numbers speak volumes. Trump’s support has been rock-steady, holding at 39% in July, barely a hair below his 40% from January. Meanwhile, Biden’s backing is tanking faster than a California reservoir in the summer. Down a whopping 7 points since January, he’s now got only 36% backing him up. Trump’s campaign is licking its chops at the sight of these crumbling Democrat strongholds, hinting that Virginia might just be the first domino to fall.

Even VCU faculty member and former Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder had to concede that the Old Dominion is now a battleground state for the presidency. It’s a bitter pill for the left to swallow, especially given that Virginia was rated “likely Democratic” by the Cook Political Report. A Republican hasn’t claimed victory in the state since George W. Bush in 2004. But don’t forget, just in 2021, Republicans swept the races for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general. Ain’t that something?

But, hold on to your MAGA hats. A poll from the New York Times and Siena College gave Biden a slight lead, but it’s within the margin of error. That means Trump’s lead in the VCU poll, also within the margin of error, cannot be shrugged off. Numbers don’t lie, and they’re nudging toward a possible red wave in Virginia.

Looking across battleground states, Biden’s campaign is buckling under pressure from Nevada to Pennsylvania. Trump’s team is setting its sights not only on Virginia but broadly, even eyeing Minnesota with a glint of ambition. According to RealClearPolitics, it’s a virtual tie in Virginia, but nationally, Trump has a solid average 47.1% to Biden’s 44.4%. With the tide shifting, the Democrats might want to buckle up for a wild ride because this race is far from over.
