Uh-oh, Republicans might be in a bit of a pickle when it comes to winning the upcoming special election in New York. A new poll by Siena College has revealed that former Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi is currently leading Republican Mazi Melesa Pilip by a margin of 48% to 44% among likely voters in the swing district. Yikes!

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The same poll also found that former President Donald Trump would have beaten President Joe Biden in the district by five points if the general election were held today. That’s right, folks, Trump is still more popular than Biden in this neck of the woods. In fact, he even received slightly higher support among Democrats, Republicans, and independents in the district than Pilip did. Talk about a blow to the GOP!
But wait, there’s more. Biden actually won New York’s 3rd Congressional District by a comfortable eight points in the 2020 election. Suozzi also beat the ousted GOP Rep. George Santos in that same cycle. However, when Santos ran for re-election in the 2022 midterms, he walked away with a victory by nearly eight points. Looks like the tides have turned, my friends.
Now, you might be wondering why the Democrats are splurging so much cash on this race. Well, according to Savannah Viar, spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, it’s because the Dems are desperate. They’ve already blown $13 million on a district that Biden won by 8 points. Can you believe it? They must be feeling the pressure.
So, what’s causing all this panic on the left? Well, it seems that immigration is a hot-button issue in this swing district. An Emerson College survey revealed that Pilip is actually leading Suozzi by nine points when it comes to addressing the surge of migrants entering the U.S. That’s gotta sting for Suozzi, who’s been taking flak from Republicans over his weak stance on border security. You know those Dems and their lax immigration policies.
In the end, it looks like Suozzi might have a bit of an uphill battle ahead of him. While he’s leading Pilip by a manageable three points among registered voters, his lead increases to a whopping 14 points when only those “very likely” to participate in the special election are included. Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.
Well, folks, keep your eyes on this race because it’s shaping up to be a real nail-biter. Will the Republicans be able to pull off a victory and secure that seat previously held by George Santos? Only time will tell. All I can say is, hang on to your MAGA hats, because things are about to get interesting!
