President-elect Donald Trump has made one thing abundantly clear: any nation that attempts to ditch the U.S. dollar for something else should prepare to pay the price. In a bold move, Trump has threatened to impose a staggering 100 percent tariff on the BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates—if they dare to undermine the supremacy of the dollar. Apparently, these countries need a hefty reminder of who holds the purse strings in the global economy.
China and its BRICS allies might think they can wrestle financial power away from the U.S., but Trump’s message is crystal clear: those plans are about to hit a brick wall. Anyone in the BRICS group foolish enough to think they can create an alternative currency or back one to replace the almighty dollar will soon find themselves facing a financial smackdown of epic proportions. Trump isn’t just throwing around threats; he’s gearing up to remind these nations of the potential consequences of abandoning the dollar.

After imposing heavy tariffs on Russia post-invasion of Ukraine, some BRICS countries began to conspire together to decrease the dollar’s dominance. As if that weren’t enough, Brazilian President Lula da Silva has been making waves with plans for a new common currency in South America, hoping to cut loose from U.S. dollar dependence. The audacity of these nations is jaw-dropping—it’s almost as if they didn’t get the memo that the U.S. economy is the lifeblood of their trade.
Even mainstream outlets like CNN have noticed that the BRICS nations are attempting to undermine America’s standing on the world stage. The concept of a “global majority” that these nations are pushing is nothing more than a concerted effort to diminish U.S. influence and challenge its leadership. But like a bad sequel to a movie no one wanted to see, the outcome remains grim for the BRICS members if they choose to go down this path.
Trump’s tough stance doesn’t end with BRICS. He also has Mexico and Canada in his sights, having mentioned potential tariffs against both countries regarding issues of illegal immigration and crime. Newly-elected Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is already showing signs of bending the knee, reaching out to Trump to assure him that cooperation is the name of the game. And let’s not forget about Justin Trudeau, who is undoubtedly feeling the heat as he scrambles for a face-to-face with Trump to diffuse any tensions before he begins his presidency. In the world of Trump, becoming a “sucker” in the international economy is simply not an option.
