Donald Trump’s rising popularity is giving Democrats quite the headache, especially as they recognize that this is not the same political landscape they found themselves in back in 2017. According to Townhall’s coverage, Trump’s approval ratings for his second term are more favorable than they were for his first, leaving top Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries scrambling to come to terms with the undeniable fact that Americans still have a soft spot for the former president. It turns out that voters are more than willing to put their trust in the man they twice elected, not to mention hailed him as both the 45th and 47th president.
In a rather desperate move on Presidents’ Day, the DNC sent out a press release that not-so-subtly wished a “Happy President’s Day to the Worst President(s) We’ve Ever Had.” Apparently, the bright minds at the Democratic National Committee failed to consider how trumpeting their political theater might reflect on themselves instead. Trump’s record of two elections could be seen as a clear indication that Americans have opted for him time and again.
While the DNC quibbles over Trump reaching what they call a “worst approval rating ever” (aside from his own first term), they seem to ignore the fact that he still maintains a net positive among voters. Meanwhile, the press release artfully snubbed Joe Biden’s own lackluster approval figures from his first days in office. Instead of addressing the realities and challenges in today’s political climate, Democrats have resorted to their old playbook of throwing around insults like confetti. It appears they really think drawing comparisons to Elon Musk will make a dent in Trump’s popularity—a rather amusing take since it reflects the Democrats’ grasping at straws.
The press release further dives into claims that Musk is acting as Trump’s “shadow president,” which raises the question of whether the DNC genuinely believes that such outlandish rhetoric resonates with average Americans. They rattle off statistics about Musk’s wealth, fostering a narrative that paints the billionaire as some Machiavellian puppet master pulling Trump’s strings. The truth, however, is that Musk and his ventures have been focused on addressing government waste rather than “gutting consumer watchdogs,” as the Democrats would have one believe.
The DNC Tried Way Too Hard to Go After Trump on Presidents' Day

This taking of potshots from the left didn’t stop there. The DNC’s release leaned heavily on endorsements from far-left figures like Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, two individuals whose political philosophies are as far removed from mainstream America as could be. With their hallowed critiques of Musk’s wealth and influence, it is clear the Democrats are desperately trying to rally sympathy that just isn’t there among the electorate.
In what seems to be a parade of selective polling, the DNC leaned on data from a variety of leftist outlets, including Quinnipiac and Mother Jones, to bolster their argument. Conveniently unmentioned, however, is that the very polls they cite indicate that Trump’s approval rating is higher than that of the Democratic Party, which recently hit a dismal 31 percent in favorable rankings. True to form, the DNC fails to recognize that voters are keenly aware of Trump’s actions, especially in addressing border security, and have no shortage of positive sentiments towards his platform.
In another ironic twist, a Morning Consult poll highlighted Trump beating then-Vice President Kamala Harris in the popular vote back in 2024, a historical feat for any Republican since 2004. While the left may insist that Trump’s base is dwindling, various ratings indicate he’s still enjoying a net positive, setting off alarm bells among Democrats. Ultimately, while they keep shouting about their disdain for Musk and manipulating numbers, the electorate is watching, and many see beyond the theatrics to the successes driven by Trump during his time in office.
