Tulsi Gabbard Defends Trump Visit to Arlington National Cemetery Sparking Media Controversy

Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman, found herself in the unusual position of defending Donald Trump this weekend on CNN. It’s a strange place to be, considering she once gave Kamala Harris a run for her money in the presidential race before jumping ship from the Democratic Party. Gabbard took issue with host Dana Bash’s insinuation that Trump had turned Arlington National Cemetery into a campaign stop, calling out the media for their audacious claims.

The backdrop to this verbal scuffle was Trump’s visit to Arlington on August 26, where he honored Gold Star Families. Media outlets feasted on a minor kerfuffle involving a groundskeeper and a member of Trump’s staff filming the wreath-laying ceremony, using it as fodder to fuel the notion that the former president was staging a political photo op. Gabbard was having none of it, asserting that Trump had received official approval to be at Arlington—a detail conveniently downplayed by the mainstream media.

She clarified that the Trump campaign had communicated with Arlington officials, who granted permission to film that day, marking it as a significant occasion. Gabbard couldn’t help but contrast Trump’s respectful engagement with the families of fallen service members with the conspicuous absence of Biden and Harris, who, according to her, not only ignored their invitations but also failed to connect with these grieving families on the anniversary of a tragedy that shook the nation.

Despite Gabbard’s straightforward defense of Trump, Vice President Harris was not so fortunate in her attempts to sympathize with the military community. Her statement of solidarity came across as hollow and unconvincing, particularly given that Gold Star families had been vocally critical of her lack of outreach and the decisions that led to their loved ones’ deaths during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. This was a major blunder in leadership, leaving many to wonder where Harris’s priorities lie when it comes to actual military families.

In what could only be describe as an astonishing display of tone-deafness, Gabbard remarked on the lack of appropriate media coverage surrounding the third anniversary of the deaths of the 13 servicemen and women. While Trump was paying tribute, Gabbard highlighted the glaring absence of media interest in honoring these courageous individuals. It is a perplexing reality—certain tragic events seem to disappear from the headlines if they don’t fit the narrative of the Left. The former soldier believes that honoring these families and their sacrifices should take precedence over petty partisan bickering.

In the background, spokesperson Steven Cheung from the Trump campaign backed Gabbard’s assertions, pointing out that they had received the necessary permissions to document the event. He took the opportunity to poke fun at the individual who tried to intercept the filming, suggesting a potential “mental health episode.” The amusing complexity of political discourse in America today is that some truths, like the hypocrisy in acknowledging heroes, seem far less consequential in the eyes of a media more interested in narratives than facts.
