Another innocent life has been stolen by our broken justice system. Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, was brutally stabbed to death on a Charlotte train by a career criminal who should have been locked up long ago. This young woman fled war in Ukraine only to be murdered by the very type of predator our liberal prosecutors keep putting back on the streets.
The killer, Decarlos Brown, had been arrested at least 14 times before this savage attack. He served five years for robbery and had a long history of mental health issues and criminal behavior. Yet somehow, this dangerous man was walking free among innocent Americans instead of sitting in a prison cell where he belonged.
The surveillance video shows the pure evil of this attack. Brown sat behind Iryna on the train, then pulled out a knife and stabbed her three times without any reason or provocation. She was just riding the train with her headphones on, trying to live her life in the country that was supposed to keep her safe.
This is what happens when we have weak district attorneys and bleeding-heart judges who care more about criminals than victims. They hand out slap-on-the-wrist sentences to repeat offenders who then go out and commit even worse crimes. How many more innocent people have to die before we get serious about law and order?
Iryna came to America seeking freedom and safety after escaping the horrors of war. She was a talented artist who loved sculpting and designing clothes, someone who cared for her neighbors’ pets and brought joy to those around her. Now her family has to bury their daughter because our justice system failed to protect her.
We have the power to stop this madness, but it requires courage from our leaders. We need prosecutors who will seek maximum sentences for repeat offenders. We need judges who understand that their job is to protect law-abiding citizens, not coddle criminals with sob stories.
The American people are tired of watching good people get hurt while dangerous criminals walk free. We outnumber these predators and the politicians who enable them. It is time to vote out every soft-on-crime politician who puts criminals before victims.
This has to end now. Every day we wait, more innocent lives are at risk from criminals who should be behind bars. Iryna Zarutska deserved better, and so do all Americans who just want to live their lives in peace and safety.
