Roberts made it clear that the American flag would continue to fly over the campus under his watch, which is a reassuring stance for patriotic Americans.
After Chancellor Roberts left, the protesters attempted to take down the flag once again, but they were met with resistance from a student-led group. The students bravely defended the flag against the unruly mob, even in the face of profanity, thrown objects, and insults. One student, Guillermo Estrada, shared his powerful account of standing up for the flag out of respect for the sacrifices made by military personnel and his own family’s journey to America for a better life.
