Staggs, who has been the mayor of Riverton since 2017, is eager to bring true conservative values back to Washington. Staggs believes that Romney has fallen short on these issues and is more interested in personal beefs than good governance. Staggs was motivated to challenge Romney after the senator failed to deliver on his promises from the 2018 election. According to Staggs, Romney’s only real passion seems to be fighting against Trump. The mayor also highlights Romney’s history of political fratricide, including his vote to convict Trump during the impeachment trials and his recent op-ed urging Republican donors not to fund Trump’s potential 2024 presidential run. Staggs sees Romney’s actions as a betrayal of Utah Republicans and a lack of support for fellow conservatives.

He has already received donations from individuals across the country who share his goal of retiring Romney.
