Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of The View, had some harsh words for evangelicals during a recent episode. While discussing President Donald Trump’s speech at the Faith & Freedom Coalition convention, Goldberg blasted evangelicals, saying she hopes they will “wake up and realize that God may not be on their side the way they think he is.” She also expressed her disbelief at their behavior, stating that they were “like little kids” booing at the truth despite the evidence presented.
Goldberg went on to say that the evangelicals of today are not the same as those from her youth, and that she doesn’t know who they are anymore. She acknowledged that they are human beings with flaws, but also pointed out that they are being taken in by “this charlatan” (referring to Trump), which is distressing.
The other co-hosts of The View also chimed in on the topic, with Sunny Hostin expressing shock at the hypocrisy of the evangelical community and Joy Behar referring to Trump as a “cult leader.” Sarah Haines even joked about Trump being referred to as the “great J.C.” (referring to Jesus Christ).
In Trump’s speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition, he highlighted the IRS whistleblower who revealed that Joe Biden and his son demanded to be paid by CCP-linked Chinese businessman Henry Zhao in 2017. Trump read Hunter Biden’s text message to the CCP official, incriminating Joe Biden in bribery.
Overall, Goldberg’s comments about evangelicals were critical and highlight the divide between different religious groups in America. It remains to be seen how this ongoing tension will impact the upcoming presidential election and beyond.
